I’ve been really taken initially with the fragility of the Dungeness landscape and its constant state of impending change and vulnerability. The elements are fundamental to its state, as well as human nature to take advantage of the land. The collage I chose seemed to highlight this temporality, with the small scale homes floating in juxtaposition with the heavy weight solid mass of the power station. The sense of scale, both on site and on the page, becomes very important as it acts as a commentary on the impermanence of Dungeness.
The collage developed into a watercolour based composition that commented on the ties between the small, venerable homes, the large solid mass of the power station and their existence being shackled to the wind and sea.
