Reading the essay by Brian Dillon about Dungeness I found this quote quite interesting:
“I have decided that the Black redstart… will be my mascot for today. The bird, rarely seen in Britain before the 1940s took a liking to…industrial and derelict buildings, and finally to the nuclear power stations dotted around the coast. The black redstart is my unlikely ally; a lover of last centuries abandoned, obsolete, or blasted places, a connoisseur or ruins.”
I would like my drawing to help me explore the scale, climate, ruins and obsolete spaces within my exquisite corpse collages- but through the eyes of a Black Redstart, as ‘a connoisseur’ of Dungeness.
